#221 - Everything in the world goes round and round, round and round...oh, shit.

Got really fucking carsick on the way to DePaul today while riding in my dad's work car. I tend to get some semblance of motion sickness in that thing, because it's tiny like a clown car but nowhere near as cool-looking, but it was so bad today that Daddykins had to drop me off at the Midway station so I could just ride the train instead. I don't get motion sickness as bad on trains or buses or vans, or roller coasters, even; it's usually small cars that do it, even if I'm sitting in front. (Not if I'm driving said small car, though. At least, I don't think so.) There's a pressure point right behind my ear that I can press to alleviate some of the nausea, but that only helps for so long. Plus, my arm starts to get tired holding that spot real quick.

Feeling slightly better now, although I'm still groggy from having to actually wake up this morning. ANT120 is in thirteen minutes, but whatever. Lab's today, though I have no idea what it is and I'm too lazy to check Blackboard.

Yesterday was a pretty interesting day. After JPN104, I decided to follow some of my classmates to the cafeteria and hang out at the anime/gaming (...anigaming?) Corner of Geekery there, since I had an hour to kill (again!) until I had to meet with [livejournal.com profile] lysis_to_kill. 'Tis very odd to be, um..."socializing" again. But I think I might start haunting that place more often, and see where things go from there. Definite highlight: finding out that my classmate Lydia, who was the first person I started talking to in Japanese class, is not only a huge Bomberman Jetters fan, but also a Nougami Neuro fan. I mean, dude! What are the odds of that happening on the 'tubes, never mind in meatspace?! (Too bad she wasn't also a Gintama fan, 'cause then it would've been the royal flush of otakuness for me. But there's room for conversion, I think. Meanwhile, she's determined to get me to watch Keroro Gunsou...)

Once I met up with [livejournal.com profile] lysis_to_kill, we roamed the Loop trying to find a DVD of The Boondock Saints, which is Liz's current movie obsession and which we were planning to watch later at her house (which we did, and it was quite enjoyable, despite the movie's flaws). After walking a couple blocks around to a Borders and some independent music/movie store, we finally found it at an FYE that was seriously right off the train stop we'd gotten off at. Durr. But I also scored a quality used version of the first season of The Big Bang Theory, which made me happy.

Oh, hey, what do you know, it's 8:31. Class time!

and I'm not breathing for you

=3 See, this is why socializing is teh pwnzors.
But man seriously, if I met someone like that in RL, I'm pretty sure I'd die of a heart attack.

>__> Get her to read your Bomberman fics nao. She's welcome to Soraverse anytime. xD

And yeah, show her Gintama, for sho'.

... I need an epic!Neuro icon. Hmm...

The squee could have been heard all the way in Tibet. We kind of scared one of the guys who was just sitting down at our table (another classmate from Japanese class), whoops.

Get her to read your Bomberman fics nao. She's welcome to Soraverse anytime.

I actually think I would find it really uncomfortable to be discussing Soraverse in meatspace. XD It's better doing it online.

I'll probably point her to Life Returns, though, since both of us seem to have similar reactions about the way the story of BMJ went...

[identity profile] dantaron.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
xDDD I can imagine that, really.

Hmmm... maybe you're right. I've tried to explain it to Silvy a few times and mmmmeeeh, it's just so hard to try to explain the whole picture. xD

Do it. >__>

Now, if only she played Golden Sun, too...

Now, if only she played Golden Sun, too...

Actually, she has! She's got it listed as one of her favorite games on her deviantArt page. Only problem is, she stopped playing TLA halfway through for whatever reason and never got back around to it.

Needless to say, I wheedled her about finishing that game...

[identity profile] lysis-to-kill.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
I'm won't be able to meet you after Chem Lab today. :-( I didn't realize I had so much crap to do before Friday, UGH *DIES* Even with only three classes, I feel like this shits just piling up. >.

Hey, that's fine, I was seriously debating on going to the seminar thingy because I've been exhausted lately and sick of going home at 5-6pm. The work isn't quite so bad on my end - it's just that the things I have to do is exacerbated by being pissed off and grumpy. x_x;;

[identity profile] disawakening.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
omg...the big bang theory...awesome. can't say that I didn't download the entire first season when I first discovered it a while back. should I feel guilty?

[identity profile] reileen.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, welcome to my LJ! I don't really post about interesting or insightful things here all that much, but you're certainly welcome to stay a while. :)

TBBT is awesome. If I hadn't managed to serendipitously stumble across it at FYE, I would've DLed it sooner or later.

(Also, you were at Schuba's? Whoah. You a Chicagoan or something?)

[identity profile] disawakening.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know what you're talking about--your lj seems infinitely more interesting and insightful than mine...not that that's saying much...

But yeah, wow, that's a lot of acronyms in such a short space. I actually just moved to Chicago from the suburbs (Naperville). I graduated from Elmhurst College last June and am desperately looking for a job in the city...kinda sucks...sigh. Living around UIC. Are you originally from the area?

Schuba's has amazing bread pudding btw.

[identity profile] reileen.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm from Burbank, which is a southwest suburb that's maybe 40 minutes or so from downtown. I've got a few friends who go to UIC, although they commute there. Good luck on your job search! What're looking into?

I haven't had the bread pudding from Schuba's, I don't think...

[identity profile] disawakening.livejournal.com 2008-09-27 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
I'm looking for anything and everything--but ideally something that will pay the bills--any suggestions? what are you going to school for btw? something art related, perhaps? you should play in public. it's something I've always wanted to do but never had the talent for (or the experience for that matter).

[identity profile] reileen.livejournal.com 2008-09-27 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
No suggestions for you, sorry. :(

I'm an art & design major. I started out as computer science, but quickly decided that I didn't feel like doing the work involved, so after fiddling about a bit in the CS school (where I was an animation major for a while), I decided to do an intercollege transfer to the liberal arts school so that I could do a degree in art & design.

And I was thinking of eventually playing at the Borders where my friend works. I still have to get a lot of details hammered out, and also convince my terrified inner self that, yes, that could actually be a productive idea, so get over yer stage fright and get on with it! lol

[identity profile] disawakening.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
sounds good. what are you planning on doing once you graduate, though? just out of curiosity...

(assuming you've thought that far ahead, lol)

[identity profile] reileen.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have too much of a clue what I'm doing after graduation. I probably won't be going to grad school, since that's not really going to help much for being in the art field as far as I can tell, and it would just cost more money. I'm assuming/hoping that I can network well enough in the art department that I can get a decent job on the recommendation of one of my professors, and that'll be my main source of income. On the side, I'd like to travel to different Artist Alleys at anime conventions across the nation, selling my art and things I designed (T-shirts, etc., etc.). And maybe play a few music gigs or whatever. But that's really all up in the air, and it depends heavily on me getting a steady job to tide me over - and hopefully one that won't kill me. o_o;;
