NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS??? WHAT THE HELL ARE THOSE??? :DD!!!1111eleventyichi!!!1

That was basically my reaction at the beginning of this year when it was still the new year and not the old crochety year that it is now. I'm not really gung-ho on New Year's Resolutions for some reason. I don't recall making them (and breaking them) on a yearly basis. Although I remember one year where I wrote down my resolutions and then came back to it in December and laughed when I realized I hadn't accomplished a single damn thing on that list. That was a fun year.

But upon realizing that I really don't want to be living in a balikbayan box in the middle of Millennium Park once I get out of college, I decided that I better start making some resolutions. And none of the vague shit that I had on my list the first time I wrote down my resolutions, like "be a better person" or "study more" or "watch more porn finish a story." Nope, I gotta make a schedule and stick to it the best I can.

So I've decided that I'm going to have a weekly schedule, with time allotted on each day for doing certain things. There's two types of activities: the stuff I have to do every day and the stuff I have a single day reserved for. I'll try to keep the same schedule for the entire year, but I can already see that stuff is going to get shuffled around come spring quarter, summer, and fall quarter of the next school year.

DAILY STUFF

Music
Spend an hour or three pounding those ivories and ruining my vocal cords. Will most likely be done in the early mornings along with the next activity (ideally meaning less late nights if I can't train myself to survive on five hours of sleep).

Fitness
People, people, looking in shape is not the same as being in shape. TRUST ME, IT'S NOT. So stop giving me the evil eye when I say I need to get in shape. Since my dorm has a free 24-hour fitness center on the second floor, I really have no excuse to not get any exercise in. I'm figuring I'll start out my mornings with music, then go get breakfast, and then work out for a half hour or an hour (I'll have to see how long I can last without completely killing myself). It's treadmill time!

School
A given, unfortunately. I have to be working on school stuff every day for two or three hours at least. This includes homework and things related to my research at work. Takes priority over any activity that's been assigned for a particular day. (Oh, man, this is going to be a very, very hard one to keep.)

Spirituality
Prayer/meditation time. My Gods have been neglected by me for long enough, oops.

STUFF BY DAY

MONDAY: Foreign Language
Since I may have my Japanese class at night on Mondays, I figured that I might as well do some more language stuff when I've come out of a foreign language class. Will be working primarily on Cebuano, but eventually I'd like to start on French and ancient Greek.

TUESDAY: Writing
Not counting the weekends, this is the day that I have the most time at night (before theoretically hitting the hay at a normal time instead of 4:00am the next day) to just sit back and do whatever the hell I want. Writing activities would include the weekly chapter of a fanfiction epic I'm working on, worldbuilding both for fanfiction and original stories, character sketching, other writing, song lyrics, poetry, and of course actual prose.

WEDNESDAY: Meditation
I...didn't really have a better name for the types of activity I'd be doing for this day. Perhaps the alternative name of "Witchy Wednesdays" would be more descriptive. I'd take time to work on visualization, astral projection, or stuff that's considered by the status quo to be "witchy" (even though in truth you don't technically "need" any of that stuff to be a witch). I was going to start out with tarot self-study, and then move on to other things once I got settled.

THURSDAY: Hellenic Study
A good day as any for this one. Includes research on the deity-of-the-month, general reading on Hellenism, and reflecting/writing.

FRIDAY: Art
I feel most comfortable doing art at home in my room, and since I tend to go home on Fridays, I assigned art stuff for this day. Fairly self-explanatory in terms of what I'll be doing. I would like to work more on original creations as well as traditional media like acrylics, oil paints, and pastels (mmmmpastels, I've come back to you).

SATURDAY: Reading
I'll (theoretically) have chunks of time that I can just spend in my room either at home or in my dorm by myself, so I can easily catch up on my reading on Saturdays. I'll probably also be able to do at certain intervals during the week, such as on the trains if I don't get motion sickness and if there's enough room to be comfortable (because sometimes those train cars can get mighty crowded). I should also be working on my reading column for this day, as well. Those of you who are here from my old journal (which at this point is all of you) know that I recently attempted a writing column under my old name, but I've decided to transfer it here. Thus, I'm skipping what was supposed to be the November/December edition of my old column and starting somewhat anew in January 2007 with "The Things Reileen Reads." Cool? Not really, but what the hey.

SUNDAY: Freedom!
It was a good enough day for Yahweh to rest, so it's a damn good enough day for me to rest. This is the day where I can decide to just be lazy and lay about or work on whatever the hell I feel like working on. I'll probably have to do homework, but given my less-than-ideal track record with getting homework done in a sane amount of time...

In addition, there's other things I'm planning on changing in the New Year(tm). First off, I definitely need to start eating healthier. Not a drastic diet change, but really, five 16-oz bottles of Mountain Dew a day can't be all that good for me. I'm thinking of getting a bottle or two of water in the mornings, when I'll be working out my voice and my body, and then if I feel inclined I can get my Dew fix later. I also need to start eating more fruit. And vegetables too, but I like fruits better. (I'm suddenly reminded I have two pomegranates in my fridge that I just bought for our family Christmas party...hmm...)

I'm also attempting to figure out my known expenses for the next year. This includes my donations to the two girls I sponsor in the Philippines through Children International, dues to my aikido dojo (my dad has been paying since I started two years ago, but I've been lazy in going, and I'm hoping that me actually paying for the lessons will get my ass there more often), and the expenses for Anime Central. Of course, my unknown expenses will vastly overtake my known expenses. Anyone who knows me knows that's just a given, no questions asked.

So that's basically it for how I'm going to fix my life next year. You might have noticed that I haven't factored in clubs and social activities - you know, things where you actually have to interact with people when you don't technically have to. I generally prefer to just be a recluse, but since success (and free shit) does depend partly on who you know, it'd be to my advantage to, you know, "get involved." Anyway, the reason there's no pre-allocation for social extracurriculars is because I'm unsure of what I want to get involved in next year at my college. I'm shooting for finally attending anime club meetings again, but Japanese class cuts into half of the meeting time, so I have to talk with the president about that. I was also thinking about hitting up the philosophy club again, but if they meet on the same time that they did last year, then I won't be able to go. As for unplanned outings with friends, well, I'd have to take that as it goes. It rather works to my advantage in this area that I have absolutely no friends at college.

Here's to duct tape for your life!
