I received an offer from a classmate in my Japanese class to join DePaul's ACE (Asian Cultural Exchange) dance troupe and participate in preparing a Filipino traditional dance for some intercollege Filipino dance competition being held up at UIC. The dance in question is called the bangko and it looks like this:

The video unfortunately ka-poofs right before the good part near the end, where you've got a pair of dancers working on three tiers of wooden benches.

I'm on the fence (...bench?) about this. On the one hand, this does look like fun, and while I'm not an exceptionally good dancer, I did have fun learning them back when I used to do the annual Asian cultural presentations for my high school.* On the other hand...it would require a significant amount of time and energy, which I'm not sure I can spare at the moment.

I'll think about it.

In brighter news, my keyboard seems to be doing fine now! (For the moment.)

Link-o-llection! Here's a series of links I ganked from Writer Beware.

This entry lists the most important things to look for in an agent, none of which (well, most of which) have nothing to do with whether your agent is the nicest person in the world since Colette Brunel.

In this corner, we have five misconceptions about vanity presses.

Finally, here's why you should never submit unagented to publishing companies. (Note: This applies to big-ass publishing houses and the larger independents. If you're looking into a small independent publisher, it would feasible to approach them directly.)

In this edition of "Asian Chicks Kicking Ass", check out this story of an ex-beauty queen turned FBI agent turned chef. Wow.

Scientists have just now figured out why germs can't have nice things from bleach.

And finally, this was originally posted on [livejournal.com profile] vyctori's LJ, but her LJ is f-locked, so I'mma posting it here for all to be amused by. It's a rendition of the Hallelujah chorus...done with flashcards...by men dressed as nuns.

Gotta go get ready now. Today is [livejournal.com profile] mia_noire's birfday and there shall be much rejoicing at the lingerie stores! HA-LE-LU-JAH!

*Though funnily enough, the only dances I can remember at this point - as in, if you asked me to dance them for you, I could do it on the spot, mostly - are a modern dance routine I did in sophomore year (to Christina Millian's "When You Look At Me") and a hula dance from junior year (to the hula song from the beginning of Lilo and Stitch). Yeeeaaaah.
