Uses the Gamma themeset from [livejournal.com profile] 1sentence. Takes place from all over the timeline for Daemonsong and plays with a lot of things that I haven't really decided on yet regarding the story. If you'd like to see little glimpses of Luke and Kira in their world, follow ze cut!

#01 – Ring

Luke clings to a deadpan Kira all throughout watching a horror movie, but it's Kira who wakes up screaming in the middle of the night from a nightmare involving creepy, long-haired girls crawling through TV screens.

#02 – Hero

"Always gotta be a big damn hero, don't you?" Kira remarks when Luke insists on taking a sick homeless kid he ran into one day to the hospital and paying for the expenses.

#03 – Memory

Much to her consternation and his amusement, Kira can never seem to remember Luke's birthday correctly.

#04 – Box

Impatiently, Kira takes the heavy box of clothes that Luke is trying to drag up the stairs to his new apartment and carries it up the steps as though the box were empty.

#05 – Run

Luke nearly ran across Kira the other day; he wasn't looking where he was driving and forgot there was a stop sign.

#06 – Hurricane

Kira has to do a temper job down in Harin right smack in the middle of a killer hurricane, and to her disappointment, she loses the friendship bracelet Luke got for her for Sunfest last year in the muddy rainwaters.

#07 – Wings

He reaches out in awe to touch one of the magnificent white wings that sprout from Kira's back in her sphinx form, but the wing twitches by reflex and knocks him off his feet.

#08 – Cold

On a snowy winter day, Kira and Luke sit outside on a park bench, talking for hours without really noticing the chill.

#09 – Red

When Luke happily shows off a new sweater that Rona had knitted for him, Kira just barely refrains from telling him that that red color looks absolutely horrible on him.

#10 – Drink

Tasalabem below, does that woman ever get drunk? an inebriated Luke thinks to himself as he watches Kira drink her tenth bottle of beer and still remain completely articulate while talking about a movie she saw recently.

#11 – Midnight

It was the middle of the night in a raging thunderstorm and she had a job to do the next day that was liable to test the limits of her patience, but Kira was worried to jinxspace and back about Luke's last voice message on her cell phone, so she donned a raincoat and galoshes and splashed out into the night.

#12 – Temptation

Staying over at Kira's condo to escape yet another fight with his girlfriend, Luke seriously considers asking Kira if he could go to bed with her – just for one night, no strings attached.

#13 – View

"Kira, do you have any sense of centering a picture?" Luke exclaims in exasperation, going through photos that Kira took when the two had visited Yanlin.

#14 – Music

Kira likes to make fun of Luke for playing such a distinctly feminine instrument like the violin, but in the depth of her heart, she wishes she had one-tenth the talent he had for music.

#15 – Silk

The first time he visits her apartment, Luke's surprised to find that the bedroom of the rough-and-tumble Kira sports lots of pink and purple silk.

#16 – Cover

For Kira's birthday, Luke performs a spectacular violin cover of one of her favorite rock songs.

#17 – Promise

"I know this is sudden, but you're going to have to trust me," Kira says to a frightened Meria, "because I promised Luke that I'd protect you if he couldn't."

#18 – Dream

Luke's blackmail material on Kira consists of exactly one thing, and that was the time two years ago that she called him on the heels of dawn one morning, sobbing and demanding to know if he was okay, after having woken up from a particularly gruesome dream revolving around his unfortunate demise.

#19 – Candle

She lit a candle every month that he was gone, hoping beyond all rationality that the humble little flame could help guide him back home again.

#20 – Talent

The two of them get into a friendly argument one day about which of them could cause more havoc in normal society.

#21 – Silence

They don't talk much on this first job that they're doing together, but Luke finds it refreshing and even a bit comforting.

#22 – Journey

Kira is incredulous when Luke "I'd-drive-to-the-grocery-store-a-block-away-if-I-had-a-decent-car" Cantor seriously suggests taking a hiking trip through the Aldeyan Peaks one day; when asked about how he was going to deal with the immense amount of walking required, he says that he'll just ride on Kira's back if she shifts into sphinx form, and Kira swats him with a throw pillow.

#23 – Fire

To ward off the chill while resting in a valley in the Aldeyans, the two of them lay curled around each other near a campfire, with Luke snoring peacefully beneath Kira's wings.

#24 – Strength

Luke knows something is wrong when the normally unshakable Kira suddenly seems as fragile as the flowers she loves.

#25 – Mask

She dropped the mask on her emotions so rarely that Luke was often moved to question whether the mask really existed at all; and just when he was convinced of his own atheism, something happened that made him believe again.

#26 – Ice

On a hot summer day, Kira buys ice cream for herself and Luke.

#27 – Fall

To Kira, Luke's normally light-hearted personality was a lot like autumn: the sunny yellows and brilliant reds of the fall leaves only came about because the trees were preparing for a darker, colder time.

#28 – Forgotten

Neither of them ever truly forgot how their pasts had unknowingly intersected at that fateful point in Time; but they treated the matter as though it were an old, dusty painting hanging in a guest room that was usually covered by a curtain of heavy velvet.

#29 – Dance

Kira tries to dance with Luke at the festival, but she feels increasingly uncomfortable and disgusted with the moist, gyrating bodies crowding the area, so she bows out gracefully and instead amuses herself from afar with how Luke has no sense of rhythm.

#30 – Body

Luke's body feels astonishingly frail to Kira when she's in sphinx form, and when she tries to nudge him awake with her paw for another day of trekking in the Aldeyans, she's almost afraid she's going to snap a couple of his bones.

#31 – Sacred

Even the daemon-hybrid Kira is offended when Luke, in a fit of exasperation one day, rattles off a very colorful oath that implies – among other things – that the saeraphic Throne Sarienne possesses scatologically-inclined fornication habits with Tsra, Queen of the Saeraphs.

#32 – Farewells

It took Luke a while to get used to Kira's tendency to never say goodbye whenever she was leaving or finishing a phone conversation.

#33 – World

Luke frequently goes abroad now to discuss the plans and projects of St. Samael's Pharmaceutical Industries with other similar businesses, but amidst the talk of the latest developments in medicine, he always finds time to send Kira samples of the local flora.

#34 – Formal

"Don't you have any formal shoes?" Kira asks, eyeing the black and red sneakers Luke is wearing with his suit, to which Luke replies, "But these are my formal shoes!"

#35 – Fever

Kira insists stubbornly that she's not sick, despite Luke shoving a thermometer in her face that shows a hellishly high temperature.

#36 – Laugh

Kira answers the door; there's a pause as she glares at Luke standing on the doorstep, just daring him to laugh at the buttercup yellow sundress she's wearing.

#37 – Lies

"I don't resent you for it," she says quietly.

#38 – Forever

"Aubri's tits, it took you two long enough!" Luke exclaims when Kira mentions that she's engaged to a certain someone.

#39 – Overwhelmed

Sometimes, it's only when she's with Luke that the more malicious daemonic voices in Kira's heart quiet down and fade away.

#40 – Whisper

When Luke met Kira for the first time, her voice was barely louder than a whisper, but she carried herself with such authority that Luke felt sorry for any bastard who mistook her understated grace as meekness.

#41 – Wait

He has to use crutches after breaking his leg on a job gone slightly wrong, and so Kira slows her usual brisk pace to match his while accompanying him to the music store.

#42 – Talk

"A surefire way to know that Kira is drunk," Luke says to his friend, "is if she actually starts talking about herself."

#43 – Search

Kira travels all over the province, trying to find a rare recording of some of Seventh Solomon's earlier songs as a surprise for Luke, who's been having a crappy time of life as of late.

#44 – Hope

Hanging around Luke has made her soft, Kira thinks to herself as she watches a group of children play at a charity fundraiser sponsored by St. Samael's – she actually feels mildly protective of these children and their futures.

#45 – Eclipse

She doesn't see what's so great about the solar eclipse, but Luke wants to go out and see it, and that's reason enough for her to join him.

#46 – Gravity

Although things have been going along smoothly so far, Kira is still worried that the weight of leading and reforming St. Samael's will be too much for Luke to carry.

#47 – Highway

Stranded in the middle of the desert with a clunker of a car, Kira shifts into sphinx form, Luke gets onto her back, and the two of them speed off along the mostly empty highway to their final destination.

#48 – Unknown

When Luke slyly asks Kira for her measurements while filling out a beauty pageant application for her as a joke, Kira responds: "Unknown."

#49 – Lock

Luke can't find the key to his rented storage space, so Kira takes an acid-covered claw to the door and slashes a hole in it.

#50 – Breathe

"Well, that was the biggest clusterfuck that we ever fucked with," Luke grumbles after a particularly horrid job, to which Kira replies, "I'm rather surprised we're still breathing."
