A new journal, a new journey, a new name...

I've actually had this particular handle for a while, but I definitely never used it as much as my other-name-that's-not-my-real-name. I used to cycle it around on MSN sometimes along with a couple of other nomers just for kicks, and the times that I did happen to use it were completely random. For the record, the name is from the main villainess of Richard Morgan's cyberpunk novel Altered Carbon, which I borrowed from my local library quite a few years back. Reileen Kawahara is, if I recall correctly, a successful business mogul who is also a "Meth" (short for the Biblical name "Methuselah"), a person who's managed to live a couple of centuries thanks to new technology that allows the rich to digitize their minds into a computer to be re-downloaded into different "sleeves," or bodies, as needed. Except for the fact that she was apparently of Japanese heritage, there wasn't anything particularly memorable about her character - she was just there to be a snarky (pseudo-Japanese) bitch. So it's not like I chose the name as an homage to her. In truth, there's no real significance to me choosing this name other than the fact that I liked it and I wanted to give myself a new "persona" for my foray into original works. If you wanted to, though, I bet you could make some sort of argument for my choice of her name as an ultimate foreshadowing of my life: successful dragon woman lives a good long life until she dies because of a stupid miscalculation. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about that possibility. On the one hand, long life and success. On the other hand, Darwin award. Hmmmm.

So what's going to be here? Well, possibilities include:

  • things regarding my art, writing, or music
  • random observations
  • generic bitching
  • musings on what I've read or watched
  • bitching about the state of the world
  • thoughts on life, the universe, and everything

Okay, so maybe that's a little general. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. After all, the fact that the list covers a wide range of bases means that you'll (ideally) have something different to chew on every time you drop by here, right? Variety is the spice of life and all that.*
