#92 - To complete my spam for tonight, I bring you music videos!

I don't usually watch music videos, but dantaron was doing his media studies homework and got me curious, so I checked out stuff for some of my favorite songs.

Evanescence - Lithium
This was one of my favorite songs off their The Open Door album, so it's a wonder I didn't think to check this out before. Well, come to think of it, I hadn't been impressed by the "Call Me When You're Sober" video, so maybe I just decided to write off the music videos from that. It has a couple of really fast shots, which is jarring for a slow song like this, but I love the setting.

Avenged Sevenfold - Beast and the Harlot
First heard this song on Guitar Hero 2. Yes, really. Shut the fuck up, I like it. And the concept for this video isn't too bad, although the female character threw me for a loop because she looks like Amy Lee from Evanescence. *points up*

Nightwish - Amaranth
From their new album, Dark Passion Play. Apparently the concept is based on a really famous Finnish painting called "The Wounded Angel".

The Offspring - Original Prankster
There's not much to say except "ewww" at the first prank in the video. Also, the song is awesome and the video in general is awesome.

Yousei Teikoku - Kokou no Sousei (live)
o...omg. *sobs* "Kokou no Sousei" is one of my favorite Yousei Teikoku songs evar. So of course when I found a live performance of it, I was shocked! Amazed! Gleeful! Surely a song made of this much awesome would be even better live, right?

Not so, folks.

This Reileen regrets to inform you that Yui Itsuki is one of those seiyuu who really can't sing but is commissioned to do it anyway for commercial reasons. The video is taken off the extras from YT's new "metanoia" album; there are also videos for live performances of "Ira" and "Shijun no Zankoku". The former is actually passable; the latter happens to suck. WRRRYYYYYYY.

It's late as hell even given that my sleeping schedule has relapsed into a more vampiric pattern, but there's no way I can sleep knowing that one of my favorite bands gives a really sucky live performance. I AM RUINED FOREVER DO YOU HEAR ME MARTEL FOREEEVVVEEERRRR.

I watched "Lithium" and "Kokou no Sousei," and for the first one, dude. That's a beautiful song, and the video is gorgeous. I seriously need to hear more of Evanescence's stuff.

And "Kokou no Sousei"...oh my. This is one of my favourite Yousei Teikoku songs, too, and I had to stop listening a third of the way through. Ugh, that was awful. I'm still gonna listen to their music, obviously, but my respect for Yui's definitely dropped.

*listens to the Lithium one, 'cause lolz he thought it was a Nirvana cover at first (thank God it isn't)* Well, her voice isn't bad at all, kinda breathy. ^_^

Beast and the Harlot is one messed-up video, to be sure. As for the band themselves... the chorus was good, but they're a little too pop for me. ^_^;;

Annette is total win as a vocalist, and the vid is awesome. Thanks for pointing out that painting, a lot of the shots and angles make a lot more sense - hell, the whole concept in general. Wonder if the song was based off the painting, as well?

Original Prankster and the Offspring, of course, are made of pure win.

As for YT, I prolly could've told you she wasn't a good vocalist. >_> And since they have a two-person band, of course their live performances will suck. The second dude is on bass, so aside from that, everything's just a tape of their song - which kinda removes the whole thing of improvisation to improve the song or stuff.
But really, did Yui ever strike you as having a lot of importance in the band? I always thought she was just there to give it up for the other dude's composition's/song structures.
Still though, sadface. =(

I might've sent you some of Evanescence's stuff before, but I'll gladly send you more. :D I'll tell you that if I had to rank their stuff in order of what I liked, beginning with my favorite, it would be: the early stuff, The Open Door, and Fallen. Which is funny because I started with Fallen, but now I really only listen to it if I need a throwback to my Golden Sun days (because around the time I started listening to it, I was getting into GS). That particular album really sounds kind of bland and overproduced compared to nearly everything else Evanescence has done. Also, emo fanfic authors have swiped the lyrics so many times that it's sort of ruined it for me. Also x2, if I see another Teen Titans AMV that features Raven and an Evanescence song, I'm going to smite something with lots of fire.

I'm still gonna listen to their music, obviously, but my respect for Yui's definitely dropped.

Yeah. At least now I don't have to go see her live, so that's one thing off my "to-do" list. XD

I suspected she wasn't, but a fan can dream, can't she? Can't she? *sobs again*

I imagined a more symbiotic relationship like between vocalist/lyricist Arika Takarano and musician/composer Mikiya Katakura of Ali Project fame, since Ali Project and Yousei Teikoku have a similar sound. (Which would probably preclude that Ali Project also sucks live, but given their success in Japan, they may have the financial backing to take around a band with them if they perform...although I have to wonder about Arika's vocals.)
