1) a raging bitch to the rare people who genuinely like her and care about her despite her absolutely...ah...prickly nature, to completely understate things, and
2) going around saying nearly every couple of pages or so "I am Hekat, godtouched and precious (SO DO WHAT I SAY, YOU PATHETIC LITTLE MORTALS)", which takes on an even more alarming dimension when you consider that she eventually marries the ruling warlord of the ruling city in Mijak
- I think she'll be fine.
Seriously, Hekat is just astoundingly unlikable, and I wanted to like her as a strong female character. But Hekat isn't powerful of her own accord - she's powerful because the god of Mijak made her that way. Otherwise, she's essentially a bitter, spoiled brat. Thank the Gods that the focus shifts away from her for the next two books (although she'll still be around, wreaking havoc), though I don't know if I'll be picking up those books anytime soon.
