I have to say, I'm glad to have read your review. Prior to this, I'd been considering picking it up (after reading Pride and Prejudice first, of course), but now...not so much. While adding asskicking is never a bad thing, the downsides you mention are the sorts that would bother me way too much for me to ignore and enjoy. :/

Maybe I'll wait for Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters instead....
