A surprising find for its rarity: Paris Hilton actually looking classy? Elegant, even? She should wear dark colors more often. (And in response to the caption after the photo, I personally think that dark red lipstick looks quite nice on her.)

A surprising find for its newness: Here's some shots taken for Vienna Teng's fourth album. Sexy, beautiful, striking - and I say that as much about the photography itself as the subject of the photography. As if I weren't looking forward already to the album...!

This is part 9 of an ongoing series regarding how artists can understand and use models to understand their own pursuits. Anyone who's thinking of making a creative pursuit of any kind into a consistently-paying career should take a look at this.

From the first entry in the series:

Starting October 15 and once a day until we’re done, I’ll be posting a series of blog entries taken from a paper I wrote with Kit O’Connell and the help of Steven Brust, Ken Brown, Deborah Ibarra, and many others. At 4th Street Fantasy Convention this year, everyone was curious about the possibilities for making money as more venues move toward the internet. We’re in a transitional time where many different ideas are being tried, scattered all across the ‘net, but in many cases it’s too new a trend to gauge long-term patterns and successes.

As Kit and I researched our paper and presentation on 21st century storytelling, we found that we wanted to answer the business models questions for ourselves as well as our friends. I also jumped at the chance to help a few of my more business-phobic acquaintances, excellent artists all, to have a more comfortable and solid understanding of business approaches as healthfully applied to art. Contrary to wide-spread and popular belief, the two do not have to be mutually exclusive, and knowing some basics about business process will not take away your artistic powers.

Neuro 177 is completely translated; Neuro 178 has 2.16342 pages translated. Not sure how far I want to go on it tonight, since I also have JPN104 workbook pages to do, and I also really need to review telling times and dates in Japanese for the current grammar lesson in this chapter, argh. I've subscribed to a feed called "mainichinihongo" on Twitter, though, and the person in charge posts a short lesson every day about the Japanese language. Yesterday's lesson was omimai vs. omiai, or "visiting someone in the hospital" vs. "an arranged first date". Two very similar words...two very different meanings. Sort of like "shujin" (husband) and "shuujin" (prisoner).

Musically, I haven't produced anything particularly noteworthy (hurrr pun). Based on a discussion with [livejournal.com profile] dantaron, I've started playing around with a counterpart to "Cold", which is of course entitled "Hot", and which plays on themes based on a really messed-up fanfic I did a while back. I hate the lyrics, but I wouldn't be so hung up over their triteness if I could just get a non-boring piano arrangement and melody! Which I can't, because I fail at music, woe.

Haven't been tagging entries lately because I've been meaning to revamp my tags into something more consistent. Stay tuned.

Thank you for linking to us.

I think the dark lipstick works on Paris with the outfit. It is surprisingly tasteful.
