#58 - The hidden side of whut?

I'm not even halfway through the introductory chapter of Levitt and Dubner's Freakanomics and I've already learned that the reason for the sharp drop in crime rates by 2000 is the result of legalized abortion killing off most of the children that, had they been born into the adverse conditions that most of their mothers weathered, would have grown up to become criminals.

Holy hell.

yeah, when i first read that, i was like wtf ...

but it does make sense ...

majority of abortions are performed on low-income women ...

and most criminals do come from low-income families ...

but serial killers, nah, they're typically middle-class, 30-40yr old white males with serious issues.

soooo ...

in the past 2 decades, there's been a sharp increase in serial killers ...

the solution to this problem ... ummmm .... i dunno ... i'll get back to you on that!
